How IoT Automates Inventory Cycle Counting

Ripples IoT’s platform brings real-time inventory monitoring in warehouses to businesses that are still relying on manual stock-takes and disconnected spreadsheets. The same zero-wire BLE RTLS platform that tracks pallets, bins, and high-value assets also automates cycle counting, cuts manual errors, and gives you a live view of stock instead of a weekly snapshot.

Manual inventory monitoring has a structural problem: it only tells you where things were the last time someone counted, not where they are now. A weekly or monthly stock-take means decisions get made on data that’s already days or weeks stale by the time anyone acts on it — and every manual count is another opportunity for a miscount, a missed pallet, or a shrinkage event that goes unnoticed until the numbers stop matching. Real-time inventory monitoring closes that gap by making the current state of the warehouse visible continuously, not periodically.

How It Works: Tag, Gateway, Dashboard

The platform transforms a manual warehouse into an autonomous one through three stages:

  • Tag — industrial-grade BLE tags or sensors are attached to pallets, bins, or high-value assets. These zero-wire devices broadcast real-time data without requiring wired infrastructure.
  • Gateway — wireless mesh gateways capture these signals and transmit the data to a central edge controller or cloud dashboard. Unlike Wi-Fi-heavy systems, the mesh topology holds 100% coverage even in the blind spots created by dense metal racking.
  • Dashboard — raw signal data is processed into actionable intelligence: automated stock-taking, zone-based alerts, and integration with your existing WMS or ERP.

Deployment doesn’t require downtime. Because the tags and gateways are battery-powered and wireless, a typical mid-sized warehouse can go from install to live dashboard in under a week — no rewiring, no scheduled shutdown, and no need to pause receiving or dispatch while the system goes in. Integration with existing WMS or ERP platforms happens through the same API layer regardless of whether the warehouse is 5,000 square feet or 500,000.

Case Study: Real-Time Inventory Visibility for a Speciality Food Distributor

A speciality food distribution company asked us to build a proof-of-concept eCommerce store integrated directly with inventory tracking and monitoring, so B2B customers could see arrival time and storage condition for high-value perishable goods in real time — captured through Bluetooth temperature and humidity probes.

RipplesIPS integrated real-time asset tracking to give full transparency across the supply chain distribution network. As products approached their expiry window, the system flagged them automatically so they could be offered at a discounted rate rather than written off entirely — turning a cold chain monitoring requirement into a revenue-recovery mechanism.

The result was a B2B storefront where customers could see, before ordering, exactly how long a shipment had been in transit and what conditions it had been stored under — information that used to live in a warehouse manager’s notebook, if it was recorded at all. For a category where shelf life is the whole business, that visibility became a genuine competitive differentiator rather than just an operational nicety.
